Wellbeing Presentation with Buro Happold

We were delighted to invite Buro Happold – recognised as industry leaders in ‘Wellbeing’ Design – to give ISA and our clients a presentation on “Designing spaces & places which are healthier, happier & more productive”.
“We spend our lives in and around buildings. The quality of the environment inside and out impacts our health and how we feel. In turn, our health and wellbeing impacts on our productivity. Is it time to assess if your buildings should make people feel great, help get the job done and enable businesses to thrive? The workshop will explore how through an increasing understanding of the interrelationship between the built environment and human health, we are using evidence informed design to deliver better outcomes for people, planet and profit”
Thank you to Ian Stewart, Fergus Anderson and Sam Haston of Buro Happold for taking time out of their busy schedules to present to us.

Beneficial House

We have just been granted planning permission to convert a redundant office building in Birmingham city centre in to a 130 bedroom boutique hotel.

The project will involve restoring the external envelope of a prominent office building with links to Birmingham’s modernist heritage and creating new activity at street level through new retail, leisure and restaurant spaces.

ISA Director Graham Currie Comments:

“The Beneficial House project is an exciting opportunity to restore a really interesting modernist building. The site itself sits on a key access route in to Birmingham City Centre and is immediately adjacent to the Paradise Circus development, which we are also working on.”

Great Junction Street Planning Application

We have just submitted a planning application on behalf of Glencairn Properties, for a new residential development on the site of the former Art Deco cinema building on Great Junction Street.

The proposal includes plans to retain and refurbish the existing Grade B listed foyer and demolish the warehouse block to the rear. The development will consist of 36 properties comprising of one, two and three-bedroom apartments with a further nine allocated for affordable housing.

The development will be respectful of the existing architectural style whilst the new extension will be designed with a positive contemporary approach and quality materials.

If successful we would estimate the development to commence in late 2018.

Stamford Hill

We got our first glimpse of the finished elevations at Stamford Hill last week as the scaffold came down on the first few blocks.

The contractor has done a great job on the installation of the pale brick and Kebony timber cladding. Also pleasing were the slatted timber balcony surrounds on the mansard roof, they've proved to be a technically difficult detail to get right but the results look good. News of the finished project will be posted in due course.
