14 Craighall Terrace

EXTENSION

The brief was to make a space more suited to entertaining guests, with improved accessibility across the ground floor.  The site is predominantly north facing so in order to create a bright, welcoming space, the design is based around a large, clerestory glazed rooflight. This allows a high level of ambient light throughout the day and sunlight to stream in from the West in the late afternoon and evening. It also ensures the existing back rooms are not adversely overshadowed.

The extension is sandwiched by two existing extensions to neighbouring properties, so the geometry is left purposefully simple, relying on quality materials and detailing. The glazing is frameless and sits on a whitewashed brick elevation, with a large oak sliding door providing an important connection to the garden.
