Conversion of existing 1960s office building into 89 bedroom 5 star hotel with restaurant, bar and gym facilities. Including demolitions, major extensions, complete reclad of building envelope, interior design, fit out & furniture design. Due to the success of the previous Apex Hotel on Seething Lane, this property, just off London Wall, provided an alternative, more exclusive product, with larger, more luxurious, boutique style bedrooms and a range of enhanced services. The existing envelope had poor thermal and acoustic performance and was of a poor quality. ISA identified an opportunity to extend the building vertically in combination with the re-cladding of the existing facade. This was achieved through a good working relationship with the local planning department and gave the hotel increased bedroom numbers and a grander civic presence, in line with the superior quality of the interior. A green sedum roof was designed to improve the appearance of the building from the surrounding taller buildings. The transparency of the ground floor creates a connection between the street and public spaces of the hotel. Large sliding glass doors open onto Copthall Avenue with outdoor cafe seating, while roof terraces offer guests a view across the city from the upper levels. The interior spaces are intimate and luxurious to further enhance the feeling of a retreat within the city. Click here to download our sustainable case study for the Apex London Wall Hotel
