26 no. one, two and three bedroom new build flats, including building fabric, landscaping works and meeting special needs criteria.
The superstructure of the building was constructed using a load bearing metal stud system (Metsec), to improve site construction speed and avoid weather related delays.
Large full height ‘french doors’ onto the street elevation repeat the proportions and scale of the windows in the adjacent Victorian tenement building but also provide high levels of daylight and natural ventilation to the rooms.
The majority of the building is rendered but precast concrete units have been used to match the scale of the stonework of the adjacent tenement building, giving the building a more civic elevation, in keeping with its context.
The building balances a relationship with the adjacent historic tenements while offering a transition to the scale of the more recent buildings closer to Leith Walk.
