ProjectConversion of existing office to 4 star hotel
ClientApex Hotels Ltd
LocationNo 1 Seething Lane
CostApprox £12m
CompletionOctober 2005

Conversion of existing 1950's office building into 130 bedroom 4 star hotel with conferencing & leisure facilities. Including demolitions, 3 new extensions, building fabric works, interior design, fit out & furniture design.

ISA identified opportunities to build economic extensions to increase room numbers and to improve the operation of the hotel. Construction methods were selected to suit the complicated, landlocked site.

A new main entrance shopfront was built to give the hotel a street presence and a defined entrance, while sliding glass doors allow the building and brasserie to open fully to the street and gardens beyond.

The public spaces were carefully organised to bring as much daylight as possible into a
deep plan and maximise the relationship to the gardens and adjacent churchyard, On the top floor, bedrooms are offered private roof terraces, with stunning views across the Thames.

The interior design selected from a limited palette of natural materials and textures, creating an tranquil oasis within the busy heart of the city’s financial centre.
