ProjectRefurbishment of 140 existing bedrooms to upgrade to 4 star standards
ClientApex Hotels Ltd
LocationApex International & European Hotels, Edinburgh
CostApprox £1.5m
CompletionCompleted August 2002

The Apex International Hotel was converted from it’s previous incarnation as Heriot Watt University’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering in 1994 originally as a budget style Hotel. Over recent years, however, it has endeavoured to raise it’s quality and now aims to be a 4 star hotel.

As part of this development, the existing rooms were upgraded to meet the Hotels new image and quality threshold. The project involves refurbishing all the bedrooms in a rolling programme which started in September 2000.

The hotel bathrooms were refurbished and upgraded by Ian Springford Architects between August and December of 1999.

Work was carried out gradually in phases over two years while the Hotels remained open.

The Apex International has recently been awarded 4 stars.
